PRINCE “PUT IT THERE.”
Joins “Old Bill Fraternity” of St Dunstan’s. LONDON, November IS. The Prince of Wales, visiting an exhibition of disabled ex-servicemen s work, enrolled as the “ first gentleman member ” of the Old Bill fraternity of St Dunstan’s, members of which promise to purchase at least 5s worth of goods made by blinded men. The Duchess of York became the “ first lady member ”. The Prince paid his membership fee of 6d and signed on the dotted line in response to an invitation by the figure of “ Old Bill ” with outstretched hand captioned, “Put it there, mate! ” He bought numerous articles at the exhibition, chiefly brightly-coloured mufflers and handkerchiefs, saying: “ Cheerful colours make cheerful people ”; also women’s handbags, which, he said, he wanted to compare with those made by foreigners.
