TEAM ELECTION. As th result of a conference held this morning between Mr K. G. Archer, Solicitor, representing Mr J. Mathison and Mr F. S. Wilding, Solicitor, representing the Christchurch Citizens’ Association, it was agreed to issue the following statement:— (1.) The Citizens’ Association point out they have always exercised fearlessly the right of commenting on Public matters in the Public interest. This privilege they will jealously safeguard, but if same is abused they will always be prepared to take steps to effect a remedy. k C2) Mr J. Mathison complains that a paragraph In the “ Citizen,” published for the Association, reflects upon his personal Integrity and motives in seeking election to t’~— Tramway Board. (3) The Citizens’ Association reply that if the article imputes improper motives of a personal nature, then such imputation was never intended. The Association dissociate themselves from any imputation against the personal integrity of Mr Mathison which may have been implied in the article complained of.
