LYNCH LAW.
Sequel to Killing of Negro. ELEVEN ARRESTS MADE. United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright. (Received November 29, 1.45 p.m.) NEW YORK. November 28. From Greenville, South Carolina, comes the news that eleven members of the white-robed, hooded band which on the night of November 16 lynched the negro, George Gree, aged 73, have been rounded up and charged with his murder. Officers are also promising additional arrests, A most sombre note of warning is contained in a leading article in the “ New York World,” which states: “ This is a time of vast unrest. Otherwise law-abiding citizens are taking the law into their own hands. Farmers are using violence against officers and judges, and strikers are being shot down. The countr.v is on edge, and for many months whole communities and classes have been under nervous tension, almost to the point of breaking, and now we enter another winter of mass suffering. In such an explosive situation, for Governor Rolph or any other sworn officer of the law to feed the mob spirit is worse than criminal. Those who raise up the mob must be prepared for the destruction of the nation.” Jury’s Verdict Surprises. Surprise was expressed here when it was learned that a St Paul Federal Court jury to-day acquitted Roger Tuohy and three other Chicago men on charges growing out of the kidnapping .of William Hamm, the millionaire brewer. Meanwhile fugitive warrants charging them with participation in the Factor kidnapping have been served on the same four.
