Gatherings Held in Town and Country. HAPPINESS CLUB’S DANCE. A successful carnival dance was held by the Happiness Club on Saturday evening in St Michael’s Hall. Novelties added to the enjoyment, of the evening, and Monte Carlo dances were won by Miss Lancaster and Mr Barker and Miss Barrell and Mr Marshall. Farewell Party at Methven. An enjoyable evening w r as spent at the residence of Mrs Graham Johns, Methven. on Saturday, when opportunity was taken by the members of the committee of the Methven Ladies’ Hockey Club to bid farewell to Mrs W. J. Cooksley, who is leaving Methven to reside in Christchurch. Mrs Johns, president of the Hockey Club, referred to the help given to the club by Mrs Cooksley over a term of years, and expressed the regret felt at her departure from the district. She asked Mrs Cooksley to accept a vase as a token of esteem from the members of the club. Party at Ball&ntyne’s. For Miss Gladys Keighley, whose marriage will take place at the end of this week, another gift party was held yesterday afternoon. The hostess, Mrs Harold Smart, entertained her guests at Ballantyne’s tea rooms. The guests were:—Mesilames Clifford Beaumont (Dunedin), D. M’Donald, R. O. Lindsay and John Mitchell, Misses Gladys Keighley. Alice Keighley, Betty Tait, Sally Lindsay and Mavis Brown. Kitchen Gifts for Bride-to-be. Miss Mae Robertson, Tomes Road, was hostess last evening at a pleasant little party given in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Lilian Miles. Each of the guests Urought a gift for the kitchen of the bride-elect, and these were presented to her tied up in an immense bonbon. Games and competitions were also much enjoyed by the guests, among whom were:—Mesdames Robertson, T. R. Miles, Misses Muriel Collins, Doris Stephens, Elsie Collins, Edna Odell, Marjorie Suckling, Muriel Stephens, Thelma Merritt, Lorna Wagstaff, Roma Spedding, Lucy Fincock, Hope Pettersen. Croquet Club Member Farewelled. A pleasant little party was held yesterday by the members of the Cashmere Hills Croquet Club to farewell Mrs Cecil Prime, who will leave this week for Wellington, where she will make her new home. Mrs Prime, who for several years has been a member of the club, was presented with a book as a farewell gift. Those present were: Mesdames Cecil Prime, E. D. Mosley, A. Turner, M. Greenstreet, Sidney Jones, S. V. Massey, A. Webb, J. A. Guild, J. W. Graham, Jacobsen, Hardcastle, A. Wood, Brickell, Pearce, .T. Lawrie, P. Delargey, Casbolt, Lovatt, M’Kenzie and Miss Anne M’Mtllan.
