Petition to Bishop.

Commission Appointed in Cambridge Parish. ispecla! to th© “Star.*') AUCKLAND, November 4. A. PETITION signed by parishioners of St Andrew’s parish, Cambridge, was received recently by Bishop Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, asking him to appoint a commission to inquire whether the Rev G. G. Bell, Vicar of Cambridge, is a fit and proper person to carry on the duties involved in the charge of the parish. The bishop has complied with the request and a commission has been appointed. Yhe bishop stated that the arrangements for the inquiry had been left to the registrar of the diocese, Mr A. B. Whyte. Asked for the personnel, Mr Whyte stated that the names of the commissioners could not be published, as Mr Bell had th f ng kt to object to those nominated. Mr Bell stated that the commission would consist of one clergyman and two laymen, members of the bishop’s court as provided under the canon law of the Church. No charge would be necessarily laid against him and any recommendation made by the commission would not debar him from obtaining an appointment in another parish. In the event of the recommendation of the commission being hostile to him, and the bishop acting upon it, Mr Bell said he had the right to appeal to a tribunal established under General Synod. Mr Bell said he had been urging the bishop to appoint the commission for some months.-
