Vice-Regal. The Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) and Lady Bledisloe attended the New Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton. To-morrow morning their Excellencies will be present at divine service in the Anglican Cathedral, and on Monday they will pay an official visit to Akaroa, where they will be given a reception. Their stay, will extend from about three to five o’clock in the afternoon. - Ministerial. The Prime Minister (Mr Forbes), who arrived from Wellington yesterday, attended the Cantebury Jockey Club’s meeting to-day. lie had no official engagements during the morning. Tomorrow he is expected to leave for Cheviot. The Hon W. H. MTntyre, M.L.C., arrived from Wellington this morning. Mr W. G. R. Riddell arrived from Wellington by this morning’s ferry steamer. Mr Hubert Carter left. to-day for Grej'mouth. where he will sing in the performance of “ Judas Maccabaeus ” on Monday evening. Messrs E. Riddiford, A. W. Wheeler, B. B. Wood, D. Jones, C. T. Keeble, R. J. Murphy, J. Duncan and H. A. Brown arrived from the north this morning. Mr Hubert Carter, who is under engagement to the Grcymouth Philharmonic Society, left to-day for the performance of Handel’s “Judas Maccabaeus,” which takes place on Monday evening. Messrs R. Clarke (Wellington), A. Petty (Wellington), E. Ellis (Wellington), A. H. Clements (Timaru), C. Cuttler (Wellington), G. Brooks (Ashburton), G. Roberts (Timaru) and G. Gostosson (Wellington) are staying at the Royal Hotel. The following members of Parliament arrived from Wellington this morning:—Mrs E. R. M’Combs, Messrs J. Connolly, A. J. Murdoch, W. A. Bodkin, D. G. Sullivan, F. Jones, E. J. Howard, Clyde Carr, H. S. S. Kyle, J. O’Brien, R. W. Hawke, P. M’Skimming and E. T. Tirikatene. Guests at the New City Hotel , include:—Messrs C. A. Hammond (Sydney), L. C. Smith, C. Beasley, S. Routley, W. Papper, G. Rocke (Wellington), J. Martin, C. W. Simmons, W. R. Woods, J. Gray, R. Wilkinson, A. Andrews (Dunedin), G. T. Thomson (Ratahi), W. Jones (Balclutha) and P. Storey (Glenavy). Mr F. C. Perry, clerk of the Waitomo County Council, has been appointed New Zealand secretary of the Mission to Lepers, in succession to the Rev F. A. Palmerston North, who will leave for Australia shortly, says a Press Association message. Mr Perry has had considerable experience in Christian work. He is president of the County Clerks’ Association. \ The death has occurred in Dunedin of Robert Ferguson, aged sixty-nine, former president and secretary of the Dominion Typographical Federation, and for forty years on the staff of the “ Otago Daily Times,” says a Press Association message. Mr Ferguson was a member of the Otago Labour Council for twenty-three years, and one of the founders of the Dunedin Cricket Club and the Leith Bowling Club. The death has occurred of Dr Andrew Sej’mour Brewis, aged sixtyeight, a leading citizen of Hamilton, says a Press Association message. He had a distinguished war record, serving with the medical corps in Egypt, France and England. He was in charge of Sling Camp for a time, and was also senior medical officer in charge of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade at Brockton. He retired in 1920. Mr J. Hammond, chief instructor to the annual shearing classes conducted under the auspices of the Christchurch Technical College, will retire from the position at the close of this year’s course. Dr D. E. Hansen, principal of the college, advised the Board of Governors to this effect in making bis monthly report at the meeting last evening. He stated that Mr Hammond had given the college fine service in the position for about twenty years. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr Hammond. Mr W. Bridge, cabinetmaking instructor, tendered his resignation from the teaching staff of the Christchurch Technical College at the monthly meeting of the Beard of Governors last evening. Referring to Mr Bridge in his report, the chairman, Mr M’Gregor Wright, said that he had taught in the evening classes since May, 1905, and had been on the full-time staff since July, 1907. The fine work that Mr Bridge had done himself as a tradesman was reflected in the general high standard shown by his students. Many of them were now Ailing responsible positions in different parts of the Dominion. The reports of the honorary trade examiners over a long period of years had been of a laudatory nature. “ While thanking Mr Bridge on behalf of the board for his services to technical education, I should like to wish him long years of active and happy retirement," said Mr M’Gregor I Wright. It was decided to send Mr Bridge a letter of thanks for his services to the college.
