WATER MAIN BURSTS.

Repair Gang Works All Night in Rotorua. Per* Press Association. ROTORUA, November 4. Rotorua borough was faced with a very serious position yesterday when the whole of the water supply’ had to be cut off in order to repair a break in the main caused as a result of extra pressure from a booster pump which was being given a first trial. It was found on investigation that sulphur, which had impregnated the soil through which the main passed, had eaten away the bolts holding down a valve. As a result, when extra pressure was applied, the valve lifted, blowing out a cavity in the footpath and overflowing over the street. The break was repaired by a gang working during the night, averting a possibility that the town might be waterless to-day.
