Man Who Waited 18 Months for Trial. SPAIN'S TOBACCO KING. United Press Assn.—By Electrla Telegraph—Copyright. (Received November 4, 12.40 p.m.) MADRID, November 3. Juan March, Spain’s Tobacco King, who is a very wealthy man, had been in the gaol of Alcala de Ilenares for eighteen months awaiting trial on a charge of obtaining the Moroccan tobacco monopoly by bribery during the monarchist regime. March continued to conduct his huge business from an office in the prison and he had his own chef to cook his meals. The warders to-day discovered that March had escaped. Two warders have been arrested, it being alleged that they permitted his escape. The Commission thus far lias failed to substantiate its charges against March. The news of his escape caused a sensation in Madrid and the Premier immediately announced that severe measures would be taken against those directly or indirectly responsible for his escape.
