METHODIST HOME.
Laying of Foundation Stones. The Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) will officiate at the laying of one of the* three foundation stones of the new Methodist Orphanage at Papanui ' next Friday morning. The other two stones will be placed by the Rev M. A. Rugby Pratt, connexional secretary, and Mrs J, A,. Flesher. Lady JBledisloe will also be present. The ceremony is timed to start at 11 am.. when Lord and Lady Bledisloe will be received and welcomed. After the National Anthem the hymn All People That on Earth Do Dwell ” will be sung, to be followed by a Scripture lesson read by the Rev Arthur Hopper, honorary secretary of the South Island Methodist Orphanage Board. The Rev Edward Drake, deputy-cfcairma#i of the board, will lead those present in prayer, after which his Excellency will lay the central foundation stone and will give a short address. Another hymn will follow, and after thanks have been returned to their Excellencies, -welcomes will be accorded the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.), Messrs R. W. Hawke and H. Holland, M.P/s, Mrs M. Caughey Preston, of Auckland, whose gift of
£ISOO enabled the work to be started, the Rev M. A. Rugby Pratt and'Mrs. Pratt, Mrs J. A. Flesher and Mr H. de R. Flesher, the board’s solicitor. The Rev Mr Rugby Pratt will lay 11 the foundation stone of the Girls Home in commemoration of the opening of the first orphanage on April 25, 1914, and the stone of the Boys’ Home will be laid by Mrs Flesher in commemoration of the founders and benefactors or the orphanagfe, A further , hymn will be sung, to be followed by the reading of a financial statement. * An offertory in aid of the building will be taken tip and brief addresses will ii be giveii by the and MesJsrs Hawke and Holland.
