RAKAIA NOTES.

SOCIAL AND DANCE. There was a good attendance at St Mark » Schoolroom, Kakaia, on Wednesday evening, when a flag ‘•500” card evening and dance was held in aid of the swvets stall at the Anglican bazaar, wnlcli fs to be held shortly. The winners at cards were: Mr J. Turton, Mrs H. Butters and Mr FT. Craig. Music for the dancing was supplied by Miss Keane, Messrs Keane, A. Pluck and T. Lawler. Mr L. Street was M.C. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss E. Kidd and Mr It. Cornelius. Bowling Club. There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Rakaia Bowling club. Mr C. Shannon presided. On betbe c * ub Mr Shannon thanked Mr M’Namara for his generous donation of rubber mats for the green. It was decided to hold a junior, singles and doubles competition. Following is the draw for the club’s singles championship. A section —Cronin, Newman, Bryant, Weaver, Conway, tiolnves, Cromie, Palmer, Gardiner, R. Tatterson. B section—Henderson, Colgan, Evison, Jones, Harrison, Rule, G. Tatterson, Garrigan. Rapley, Black. P.WB.U. Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union was held in St Andrew’s Schoolroom on ■Thursday afternoon. Airs Alorrison presided and conducted tine devotional exercises. A missionary letter was read from A.rs A. T. Howie, of Kong Chuen, Canton. Mrs Boag gave the final of the series of studies on Bliss A. E. Henderson s book, "The Shield of India.” It was decided that Miss Bteck, of Christchurch, address the next meeting. Later, a meeting of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild was held. Bliss J. Stevenson was elected secretary in place of Mrs Evison. resigned. It was decided to hold a sale of work on the same lines as last year in March, and to arrange stalls and stall-holders at the next metet•ng in December. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Morrison and Pye.
