SCOTTISH SOCIETY.
A complimentary social was given to .he Scottish Society's Pipe £and by the council of the society to celebrate the success of the band in winning the shield at the contest recently held at l.eeston. The chief (Mr G. M. Telfer) presided and congratulated the .band. After the society's ode had been sung bv Miss Munroe, with the audience joining in the chorus, the chief proposed a roast to the pipe major (Mr J. M'Laohlan) and the band, complimenting the pipe major and the drum major on winning the gold medals with the shield. The majors in reply pointed out that the hand had improved by a margin of thirty-two points its position when compared with its effort in last year’s competltio-. Chieftain R. M. Spiers proposed the toast of the parents of the voung pipers, and Mr M’Millan in his reply expressed the pleasure of the parents In the success of the band. Drum-major Kennedy proposed the toast of the chief, chieftains and council, and expressed the band’s appreciaion of the kindly interest they had aken In Its activities. Councillors Dickson, Gibson and Past Chief Williamson also spoke to the toast. DrumUorporal Cummings then proposed the toast of the ladies, and Mrs Peddie responded. The toast of the members of the society was proposed by Drummer Ar mstrong, and Mr Munroe responded. Items were given by Misses Betty Mun-r<->e. Joyce M’T*achlan, Jean Dickson and Shier, Slessrs Donaldson and «'< M. IVlfer. The accompanists were Mrs Creagh and Mrs G. M. A ® of thanks to the artfsts and the singi g of ■* Auld Dang Syne " brought the evening to a close.
