ATHLETICS.

Inter-club Competition Arranged. Several addition* and improvements are embodied in the programmes for this season’s inter-club and evening athletic meetings. The most important of these is the institution of a grades for competitors under tlie age of eighteen and a half years. Dates and programme* were arranged at a meeting of club captains and secretaries last night. The president of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Oentr«, Mr J. K. Moloney, presided. Separate System. Mr Moloney, on whose motion the new grade was set up, said he felt very strongly that it should be introduced. The inter-club system had been modelled on tine Victorian system, where the grade went down as far as I-', and the •addition of this one more grade would not make the system unwieldy, a roster of tiie officials would be drawn up, and it would still be possible to have the programme finished within the time available. A programme of about lour events each Saturday could be drawn up and the competition could be run on a points system apart from the A and B grades. Messrs Moloney and It. Beattiv were appointed a sub-committee to arrange a roster of officials. On the motion of Mr L. A. Woodward it was decided that where possible 220 yards hurdles events be run in lanes.
