N.Z. Postal Rarities Bring Large Sums. £3OO FOR 1/- YELLOW, 1835. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received October 5, noon.) LONDON', October 4. Two New Zealand penny carmine stamps, on a letter sent by a soldier in New Zealand in 1855 to his mother in Northumberland, realised £lls at Harmer’s auction. The ordinary postage was one shilling, but soldiers were privileged to pay twopence. A New Zealand threepenny lilac, dated 1802, of which the only other known copy is in France, brought £240. A shilling yellow dated 1855 brought £3OO.
