“LIFE IN THE RAW.”
George O’Brien in Zane Grey Story.
“ Bife in the Raw.” a fast-paced Western drama, starring George O’Brien, began at the Majestic Theatre yesterday. “ Rife in the Raw ” is from the pen of Zane Grey, and tells of stirring happenings in the west of America. George O’Brien is at home in the saddle, and is just the type of man to save the distressed. The young lady in this case is Claire Trevor, a newcomer to the screen. She arrives from the east just as her brother steals a sum of money from one of the premises in a nearby town. She has befriended- O’Brien, and he comes to her aid. Together they find a way out of the trouble, and the brother’s reputation is saved. This is not done without gun-play and adventure, and some fast riding. O’Brien lives his part. Right from the first scene to the final fade-out his performance is convincing. He rides &.s he has never ridden before, and his adventures are up to the most exciting Western standard. Claire Trevor, O’Brien’s new leading lady, is a blonde, small, and in the true sense of the word, beautiful. Her merit does not lie only in her beauty, for she acts convincingly. Greta Nissen heads the supporting cast. Although she portrays a “ hard ” type again, she has a redeeming feature, when she helps the two lovers to escape. Most of the action takes place in the open, and the photographers have excelled themselves. The supporting cast includes Francis Ford, Warner Richmond, Gaylord Pendleton, Alan Edwards and Nigel de Brulier. The supporting features include a travel film, a cartoon, a comedy, and a newsreel.
