More Passengers and Lower Revenue. The number of passengers carried on the Christchurch trams during the fourweekly period ended on July 16, represented an increase of 50.465 compared with the return for the corresponding period of last year, being equal to 4.15 per cent. There were increases on all lines, but the longer routes showed the largest percentage. On the Sumner line the increase was 9.6 per cent, Riccarton 10.7 per cent, and North Beach 10.9 per cent. The earnings in the period amounted to £12,195, a decrease of £7Bl, or 6 per cent, and the operating expenses to £9390, a decrease of £643 or 6.4 per cent. The earnings of the petrol buses decreased by £65 and the expenses decreased by £ll3. When the return was presented to the meeting of the Tramway Board yesterday, Mr W. Hayward remarked that the increase in the number of passengers was satisfactory. The chairman (Mr G. T. Booth): It is interesting to note that the longer routes are picking up very satisfactorily.
