TOBACCO GROWING.
Reporting on behalf of a sub-com-mittee to this morning's meeting of the Disabled Soldiers’ Civil Re-establishment Committee, the chairman, Mr H. Holland, M.P., stated that he had investigated a request for assistance in a tobacco-growing project at New Brighton. He was very pleased with the man’s enthusiasm and enterprise. Mr E. F. Willcox expressed amaze- * ment at the progress already made by the applicant. One of the most impressive features was the report of the expert, Mr J. Gilmour. that the land was most suitable for growing a certain class of leaf. lie suggested that the request should be most favourably regarded. After a discussion in committee, it was reported by the chairman that a tentative agreement for the setting up of a partnership to develop the project had been approved.
