FRUITERERS MEET.

At the annual meeting of the Christchurch District Retail Fruiterers’ Association this week, the president, Mr B. Thompson, presided* over a good attendance. The report stated that the membership had kept up. Owing to the slackness of trade generally the trading account did not show such a good position as in previous years. Much correspondence was read from the acting-Prime Minister regarding the embargo on Australian fruits, and copies of letters written by the secretary on this matter were approved. The committee representing the fruiterers and confectioners reported having met the chairman of directors and manager of an ice cream company in regard to charges for the coming season, and the manager had addressed a combined 1 meeting some time ago. It was decided that the same committee, Messrs W. Gibson, E. Eldridge and C. Knight, should again see the company in the near future and endeavour to come to terms of a more favourable nature. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr L. Daniel; vice-president, Mr S. Smith; secretary, Mr E. Eldridge; treasurer, Mr W. Greenway; purchase committee, Messrs B. Thompson, L. Daniel and E. Eldric?ge; committee, Messrs A. Borrows, E. Sorrell, W. Mitchell, H. E. Elliott, W. Masson and J. Blackgrove. A motion of sympathy was passed with the family of the late Mrs Feaver.
