Christ’s College Draw With Nelson. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 20. The annual quadrangular Rugby tournament between the first fifteens of VVanganui, Wellington, Christ’s and Nelson Colleges began on Saturday afternoon, when Wellington defeated Wanganui by 28 points to 5 and Christ’s College drew with Nelson, 11 each. The latter game, which was played before a crowd of over 4000, including Lord and Lady Bledisloe, was a magnificent exhibition and will be long remembered as one of the. most brilliant contests in the history of inter-collegiate Rugby. a terrific pace was set at the kick-off and maintained throughout. Christ's College, who were playing into the sun in the first spell, scored early, Alexander kicking a penalty goal. Nelson retaliated spiritedly. Har'pur picked up while travelling at speed and went over in a corner. The whole of the Nelson backs combined in a spectacular passing movement which took play to Christ’s College line, where Boyd-Wilson scared. Nelson kept up the attack and were successful when Karsten made an opening for Cook, who beat two opponents in the race for touch-down. Another magnificent movement by the Nelson backs ended in Grindle scoring. Overton converted and half-time was called with Nelson leading by five points. In the second spell both teams continued to show splendid form. The score was equalised in the dying stages when Hay picked up from a scrum suid jinked his way across. Christ’s College having been longer out of the final than Nelson will, under the rules of the tourney, play-off with Wellington on Monday. St Bede’s (Christchurch) were defeated by 6 points to 3 by St Patrick’s (Wellington) in the second game of the triangular tourney between St Bede's, St Patrick’s and St Patrick’s (Silver stream).
