CLAIM FAILS.

Crown Sued by Ex-member of Unemployment Board. NO CONTRACT MADE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, August 7. Judgment for the Crown, with costs, was given by Mr Justice Reed to-day in the case in which George Finn, company manager, claimed £391 for alleged wrongful dismissal from the Unemployment Board, of which he was a mem-

ber for about eight months, after which a new board was appointed. The Judge said that in order to succeed suppliant must show that the Crown's right to dismiss a servant at any time without incurring liability for damages had been restricted by the statute under which he received his appointment. In the present case there was nothing in the nature of a contract. -Suppliant simply had been gazetted as a member and could resign at any time. There was no provision for remuneration and the Minister of Finance could withhold his approval to anything but the merest nominal payment. Suppliant's claim was hopeless.
