Technical Extend Western in Hard Game. hurley shield matches. Likelj' to have an important bearing on the championship result, the Western v. Technical Old Boys match, at English Park to-day, produced hard and interesting football. Adopting aggressive tactics, Technical, although facing a stiff breeze, led 1-0 at the interval. A penalty goal levelled the scores, and two more—the first apparently from an off-side position—gave Western a 3-1 win. Positions of Teams. After to-day’s matches, Western, with ten games played, lead for the Hurley Shield with sixteen points. Thistle, played eight, are second with thirteen, and Nomads, played ten, third with twelve points. WESTERN v. TECHNICAL 0.8. The teams were: — Western—G. Colville. S. Cawtheray, W. Kelly, R. A few minutes later Adams goaled again. Nomads 4, Linwood 1. Linwood came again with some bright play, Rollins almost scoring, but Shaw saved well. Half-time score: Nc-mads 4, Linwood 1. Play was up and down the field for the first fifteen minutes. Linwood attacked strongly, good work in the forwards corning from Thomas, Gordon and Allen. Good sent down a hard shot at goal, Shaw stopping cleanly. Bremford was kept busy in goal for Linwood, clearing three successive attempts. Gordon commenced a fine movement, which ended in Thomas beating Shaw for a goal. Nomads 4. Linwood 2. Wilson centred. Rollins heading a shot which just missed the goal. A corner to Linwood had Nomads in trouble, the ball eventually landing on top of the net. Nomads were defending when the game ended. NOMADS 4 LINWOOD 2 Referee: Mr J. Cawtheray. THISTLE v. RANGERS. Thistle kicked off against the wind, with ten men. After ten minutes’ play Rangers took up the attack, E. Barnes testing Mitchell with a fine angle drive. Despite their handicap Thistle took the offensive, R. Ada mscoring. Thistle 1. Rangers 0. Thistle came again. G. Clements sent across a high shot which gave A. Wilder some difficulty to clear. A few minutes later A. Sutherland shot downfield, for J. Bruce to snap the ball home. Thistle 2, Rangers 1. Rangers brightened up, but they made too much allowance for the strong wind. H. Goddard and A. Wilson were prominent on attack. Rangers forced a corner just before the interval. Half-time- score: Thistle 2, Rangers 0. • The second spell started briskly with some fine short passing movements by both sides. In a Thistle raief Bruce had Wilder fully extended to punch over a high shot. Thistle were showing a definite .superiority with a close combination, Clements finishing off the movements with dangerous shooting. Rangers looked like scoring when C. Falloon broke away, but G. Junior Grade—Greymouth 2, Taylorville 1; Runanga 4, Dobson 0. Third grade: Greymouth 0, Technical B 0. WEST COAST TEAM. The following team has been selected to represent the West Coast against Buller in the Soccer match for the Peter Dawson Cup, to be played on Saturday next: —Goal: Timlin. Fullbacks: Wicks, Marley. Half-backs: Cowe, Pattinson, Marshall. Forwards: Crowe, Shortt, Malpann, Anderson, Coutts. Emergency: Maughan. Referee: Mr A. D. Hamill.
