£1446 DAMAGES GIVEN.

Jury Holds Motorist Was Negligent. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 4. Damages amounting to £1446 against Henry John Wynne, civil engineer, were awarded ‘Arthur M’Sperrin, a waterside worker, by a jury in the Supreme Court to-day. Plaintiff claimed £5087 0s 7d damages against Wynne and the Wellington Fire Board. The action arose out of an accident at an intersection on the evening of April 18, when a fire engine mounted the footpath, striking and injuring M’Sperrin. Wynne was the driver of a motor-car involved in the mishap. The jury found Wynne negligent in turning or attempting to turn where he did, in failing to keep a proper look-out, in failing to stop his motorcir in time to allow the fire engine to pass him, in failing to maintain his position to the left of the centre line of Featherston Street, out of which he was turning, until he had entered the area of the intersection, in obstructing the fire engine and failing to stop his motor-car on the approach of the engine. It was contended that these acts of negligence contributed to the accident. In no instance did the jury find the driver of the fire engine negligent.
