AUNT HILDA’S TOUR.

Brilliant Conclusion at Hokitika. SUCCESSFUL PARTY. (Special to the “ Star”) HOKITIKA. July 29. A fitting conclusion to the round of children's parties conducted by Aunt Hilda, of the “ Christchurch Star,” was reached at Hokitika on Saturday, when one of the brightest and largest parties was held. The Soldiers’ Hall was crowded and the party was organised by the teachers of the State School, the proceeds to be devoted to school funds. The hall was gay with ved, white and blue streamers and long trails of lycopodium. Visitors were present from St Mary’s Convent and several outlying schools. One boy double-banked his sister five miles from Arahura on a bicycle. There was a very happy tone to all the proceedings. Music was supplied by Miss A. Duff and Miss Walker. Mr J. L. Menzies (headmaster) welcomed Aunt Hilda in a happy speech, to which the children responded with prolonged applause. Games, dancing and concert items were on the programme, and the Grand March was carried right through with-, out a mistake. The afternoon tea was again remarkable for its abundance and its specially attractive quality. The mothers had given their best. Tea arrangements worked most smoothly and the greatest credit was due to the following ladies’ committee: Mesdames J. L. Menzies, George Perry, Fane, Hart, Brown, Harper, Collett, Robinson, Chesterman. Cox and Warren: Misses Duff, Chesterman. Wilson, Mortland, Parlane, Cox and Walker and Messrs J. L. Menzies and Warren. There were many beautiful fancy costumes in evidence everywhere, and the crowded hall was a mass of moving colour. June and Viv. Ileenan danced a duo, and a very attractive barefoot ballet, prepared by Miss Walker, was given by the following:—Xgaire Ilarcourt, Joyce Robinson, Joan Feeny, Madeline Robinson, Marie Menzies, Frances Campbell, Lucy Fowler, Xoelle Brown, Clair Wallace. Mary Nilsson, June Ward, Irene Bell, Joan Gooch, Lorna Williams, Clarice Dunn, June Lindop; soloist, Violet Darby.
