COMPETITIONS.

The musical and elocutionary competitions in connection with the Riccarton Methodist circuit were brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday evening in the Clarence Road schoolroom. There was a large attendance. The Rev H. Ryan, on behalf of the Competitions Committee, made presentations to the judges. Messrs A. Sehnack (vocal and instrumental) and L. N. Fleming (elocution), and to Miss Eileen Leathwick (secretary). Following were the results;— Piano Duet, Own Selection (open) — Misses Rona M'Leod and Kathleen Moore (90 points) 1, Messrs H. G. Stevens and A. Clark (88 points) 2, Misses Melva Beswick and Phyllis Wise (84 points) 3. Men’s Shakespearean Recital—Mr Fred Stevens (93 points) 1, Mr Elmsly Williams (91 points) 2, Mr Ralph Leathwick (89 points) 3. Sacred Solo. Lady or Gentleman—Mr C. C. Marsh (88 points) 1, Miss Eileen Leathwick (87 points) 2, Miss Eileen Ryan (84 points) 3. Prepared Speech —Mr L. Clements (93 points) 1. Mr Ralph Leathwick (91 points) 2. Mr G. Duder and Mr Fred Stevens (90 points) equal 3.
