WON £30,820 IN STAKES.

Riccarton-trained Horses had 189 J Successes This Season. H. AND A. CUTTS HEAD N.Z. LIST. DURING the twelve months which end to-day, horses trained at Riccarton won 1894 races, gained second place 1814 times, and were third on 171 occasions. The aggregate value of the races won was £30,820. Early in the season it seemed likely that the 1931-2 season total of 193 wins would he exceeded, but the scoring rate was not maintained.

Thirty-two trainers have shared in the total of 189 i successes.

Twelve month.? ago, F. D. Jones, with several late successes, just managed to wrest the leadership from IJ. and A. Cutts with a total of 19 wins to 18. The Cutts brothers have led throughout this season, and are not only an easy first with 29 wins among Riccarton stables, but also head the winning trainers’ list for New Zealand. The ChokeboreJLodge team gained 31 seconds and 27 thirds, and in stakes captured £6755. The New Zealand, Auckland and Winter Cups, C.J.C. Challenge Stakes, C.J.C. and Dunedin Champagne Stakes. C.J.C. Great Easter Handicap and Dunedin Publicans’ Handicap were among the successes of the stable. In the last quarter, the Cutts representatives had the unlucky tally of 2 wins 10 seconds and 2 thirds, while in the same period, horses trained by S. Barr, who is second on the local list with 19 wins, ran 2 firsts, S seconds and 7 thirds. G. Murray Aynsley, with fourteen wins, is third on the list, but he is second in regard to prize-money. Silver Scorn credited this centre with the New Zealand Derby and Oaks, Great Northern Derby. Oaks and St Leger, the Dunedin Cup. and other important events. A. E. Wormald, with a team of three : came fourth, gaining 13 wins and 25 minor placings. 11. Nurse, thanks to Polydora, came with a late run, and finished fifth. He was level in wins with R. Adamson, but gained more minor placings. The Riccarton list for the season is: Ist 2nd 3rd Stakes £

Totals 189 J 181 J 171 30,820 race, no second prize-money. Successes were gained on twenty New Zealand courses this season and a win was also scored at Randwick. In the previous season wins were obtained on twenty-seven courses, which suggests a diminution in travelling. During this season, ninety-six races have been decided at Riccarton. Of these fifty-seven have been won by the locally-trained brigade and thirty-nine by visitors. As was the case in the previous twelve months, Wingatui was the happiest hunting ground away from home for Riccarton horses. Ashburton again yielded a good crop, but there was a drop of nearly 50 per cent in the yield from Trentham. A comparison of the wins gained on different courses in the last two seasons is as follows:
