ATTEMPTED ROBBERY.
Bag-snatcher Active in Papanui. A bag-snatcher is again at work in the city after a long period of inaction. An unsuccessful attempt was made last evening to snatch a bag from the hand of Mrs Watkins, a stranger to Christchurch, in Papanui Road; but after a brief struggle she succeeded in retaining her hold on it. The incident occurred between Webb Street and Holly Road. A man on a bicycle rode up behind Mrs Watkins and as he went past he stretched out his hand and got a grip on the bag, only to find that Mrs Watkins had it held securely. There was a brief struggle for possession, but the thief made good an opportunity of escape and away. The incident occurred about seven o’clock.
