£20,000,000 LOAN PLAN

Suggestion Made to Minister of Employment. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, July 3. A large deputation representing suburban and country as well as city bodies urged the Minister of Employment that the allocation in country suburbs should equal that for the city. It was pointed out that the present policy was driving men to the cities. One suggestion was that the Government, to enable a full allocation to be made, should borrow £20,000,000, spending it in two years and repaying through the annual unemployment fund, which now stood at £4,000,000. The Minister, in promising consideration of the request, stated that the abolition of the stand-down week, which was the crux of the position, was against the board's policy as being outside the funds at its disposal.
