TROTTING NOTES.

IJ'OMINATIONS for the trotting event ~ to be decided at the South Canterbury Hunt Club meeting will close on July 7 at 9 p.m. * * * * Entries for the August meeting of the Metropolitan Trotting Club will close on July 13, at noon. * * * ❖ Nominations for the one trotting event at the Waimate Hunt Club’s annual meeting will close on Friday. It is a saddle race for horses that can do 3.45 or better, one mile and a half. A QUICK RETURN, The Auckland trainer, F. J. Smith, enjoyed an early return with the pacer Manco. which he purchased from Mr J. FI. Lloyd early in June. Manco won the Te Kowhai Handicap at the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Manco is by Peterwah, and is expected to develop into a useful stake-earner. Smith was -also successful on Saturday with Worthy Light, who was first home in the Novice Handicap. * * * * Ilytemoana ran two good races at Oamaru on Saturday, finishing resolutely on both occasions. Fie has improved under the tutelage of J. M’Lennan, and the son of Nelson Bingen and Seaward Spot gives promise of better days. BEGAN WELT,. The attractive pacer. Black Watch, left the mark kindly on each start at Oamaru and went really well. He has only been in work a short time, so when the son of Man o’ War and Kiltess receives a thorough preparation, a few stakes should come his way. # * * :k Much interest was taken in the four-year-old horse Guy Bell, who was a candidate for the Oamaru Handicap on Saturday, but he did not begin too well. Guv Bell is trained at Riversdale by G. Robinson, and is by Guy Parrish from the trotting mare Great Bell. Her sire is Bellman, from Microbe. Great Bell won several races at the trotting gait. She was a roughgaited mare, but a good stayer. During the 1926-27 season she won five races out of seven starts, concluding a successful innings by annexing the two important trotters’ races at the Forburv Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting held on May 5 and 7, 1927. * * * Preface, who won the Oamaru Handicap on Saturday, is an aged mare by Author Dillon from Daisy Lynn, and is owned and trained by J. Payne, whose home is at Courtenay. Preface did everything correctly, and she was pacing strongly at the finish. She started once last season. FAVOURITE GOES BADLY. C. S. Donald was very disappointed with the showings of Red Gold at Oamaru. lie competed in both races and was sent out favourite. He tangled during the first hundred yards of the Oamaru Handicap, and gave a similar display in the Waikaura Handicap. Red Gold is by Rey de Oro from a mare by Logan Pointer. The dual Auckland Cup winner Gold Jacket has been placed in work again at Wbangarei and will act as schoolmaster for Red Hope in training. Although Mr E. J. Parkes has no intention at present of racing Gold Jacket again, there is a possibility that if the black pacer shows anything like a return to form he may be seen in action before next season closes. WON WELL. Sunbrown won the mile and a quarter race at Oamaru on Saturday in a breezy manner. Fie showed more stamina than previously, and can be regarded as a useful pacer for suitable ten furlong events next season. He is trained by R. Townley and is by Sungod from Marne. Last year he started in ten races, and secured three thirds. Saturday marked his first success. * * * R. Townley has put Louis Bingen into work with a view to racing the gelding at the August meeting at Addington. Louis Bingen has benefited considerably by his spell, and should make further history next season. Girvan, who is also a tenant of Townley’s establishment, will enjoy an extended rest, and will not make his reappearant until November. STAR PRONTO TO RESUME. The Australian-bred pacer Star Pronto, who is a half-brother to Auto Machine and the well-performed Machine Gun. will resume training at Epsom early this month, after practically a year’s spell. Last season Star Pronto showed a lot of promise on the tracks at Epsom, but did not race kindly. Star Pronto will be again trained by W. Dyer, who has returned from Hawera, where he trained several horses during the last two seasons. * * * The three-year-old pacer, Cimarron, displayed fine form at the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. After winning the Ruakura Handicap, run over two miles, he came out later in the afternoon and annexed the Eureka Handicap decided over one mile and a quarter. Cimarron is by Worthy Bond from Edna, and shapes like reaching good company next season. A REAL BARGAIN. By winning the two principal races at the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, Lady Coronado gave her new owner a quick return. After winning the Hobson Handicap at the recent meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club, Lady Coronado was purchased bv a patron of S. M. August’s stable. She is a black mare by Prince Coronado. Last year she .started in twentv-eight races for one win. three seconds, and five thirds. She is a good stayer, and has evidentlv improved considerably this season. She was bred by Mr W. Heginbotham, at Waverley. * * * * The nacer Red Hope, in the charge of L. M’Mahon, returned to Whangarei recently. Red Hope put up an attractive performance at Auckland when he finished second to Our Summer and with an element of luck in the running would have won. He is a gross horse and requires a lot of work to keep him in racing condition. M’Mahon intends to keep him going at Whangarei so as to have him ready for racing when the new season opens at Epsom in August. TIIUTTINO FIXTURES, July 20—Waimate D.H.C. July 22—South Canterbury H.C.
