Y.M.C.A. APPEAL.
Arrangements Made at Luncheon. Members of the Y.M.C.A. Appeal Committee and the Christchurch Businessmen's Relief of Distress Committee gathered at a luncheon in the Y.M.C.A. to-day to make final arrangements for the association’s street appeal on Friday next. Mr W. 11. E. Flint, chairman of the Businessmen’s Committee, was among those present. Mr D. E. Par ton presided. Mr Parton said that the large attendance was indicative of the interest taken in the appeal. “We cannot close our eyes to the fact that it is going to be difficult to realise the amount we hope to get by next Friday’s appeal,” he said. “ The committee is, however, confident that it will get within coo-ee of its £ISOO objective.” Mr Flint said that Y.M.C.A. work the world over needed no advertising. He felt sure that the good -work of the association would go on in the future as it had in the past. If there were no institution like the Y.M.C.A. there would be a .definite gap in the continuity of the lives of a large number of young people, who would otherwise find themselves at a loose end. Mr J. L. Hay. for the Publicity Committee, paid a tribute to the valuable assistance given by the city newspapers. He said that all had very generously given of their services. The Tramway Board and Chandler and Co. had also assisted. The radio stations had given facilities for broadcast talks. Anyother means of publicity that would make the appeal a success were being used.
