SEASON EXTENDED.

George Arliss Triumph in Second Week. “A Successful Calamity,” George Arliss s latest picture, began the second week of its season at the Plaza Theatre to-day. It is a picture for the people, with a message to humanity. Moreover, it has special application to the times through which we are passing. The artistry of George Arliss shines brightly as ever, no less by reason of the inimitable light and shade of his acting, as by the polish which adorns the production as a whole. Arliss is seen as Henry Wilton, a millionaire, who returns to America on an Atlantic liner after a mission of national importance to find his pretty young wife, together with his young son and daughter, selfishly engrossed in their respective social activities. He is a lonely in the lavishly-modelled mansion and finds solace alone in the less pretenuous room of his faithful butler, Gonnors. Convinced that his family look upon him merely as the one who provides the means for their selfish extravagance, Wilton gets the idea of informing them that he is ruined. The reaction of his family is startling. In the leading role George Arliss is the supreme artist of other triumphs, and lie is ably supported by Mary Astor. as the young wife, and others well suited to their parts. The. programme is completed by a collection of entertaining “ shorts.”
