The purchase consists of 16 hea including the champion trotting sir Mr M’Elwyn, lmin 59isec, leadin son of the famous sire, Guy Axworth whose stud fee was £4OO per mar The renowned producing mare, Wido Maggie, was not included in the sal but will remain the property of th M’Courtie family, to be pensioned of With two or three exceptions the 1 head are descendants of the famoi Widow Maggie, by Peter the Grea dam of ten trotters, six of whom hav records of better than 2min lOsec. C these Mr M’Elwyn was the world’ champion two, three and four-year-ol of the day. Mr Elwyn’s record of lmi 59isec, put up as a four-year-old, wa also the best record of a living stallio at the time it was made. Anothe of the draft, Benelwyn, as a four-yea old did 2min Hsec in a race, which wa also the fastest for a stallion in a rac when made. Outside Mr M’Elwyn, the mos valuable horse in the lot is Spence M’Elwyn, 2min 4isec as a two-year-old He was the leading two-year-old trotte last season, and is one of the firs choices for this year’s Kentucky Futurity, Hambletonian Stake anc other Futurities. It may well be im agined what this colt alone would fcx worth. In commenting on the pur chase, the “ Horseman ’’ says it wil prove most pleasing to trotting in terests, as it upsets the rumour thai H. H. Knight was going out of trotting Furthermore, it comes as a greate: pleasure to learn that the horses wil be domiciled in Kentucky. Mr Knighi is the only man who has owned twc 2min stallions at one time.
