A CRISIS NEAR.
Dispute Over Chinese Eastern Railway. SERVICE ALMOST CRIPPLED. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 4, 11.15 a.m.) SHANGHAI. May 3. A crisis is rapidly approaching in the dispute with the Soviet over the Chinese Eastern Railway. There is no indication as to what action Manchukuo will take when the period expires for the return of locomotives and rolling stock. There is little likelihood that the Russians will admit Manchukuo’s right to part ownership of the line. In the meantime’, the railway is practically crippled. This added to banditry and other lawlessness in the areas served by it is creating terrible conditions affecting the whole of the country from Manchuli to Harbin.
