“VERY PLEASED.”

Success of Washington Conversations. MR MACDONALD RETURNS. British Official Wireless. (Received May 4, 1 p.m.) RUGBY, May 3. Mr MacDonald, on landing at Southampton, said he and Mr Roosevelt had found themselves in complete agreement regarding the objects in view, and the discussion on the means of achieving those objects was most friendly. “ We discovered that we were both very hopeful of common action,” he said. “ I shall report to Cabinet, but so far as I am concerned I am very pleased. You have seen the first results in the action of Mr Davis at Geneva. That was very helpful.”

An enthusiastic welcome was accorded Mr MacDonald at London by several Members of Cabinet and other distinguished people, including Mr Davis,

the American Charge d’Affaires. Mr MacDonald will broadcast a speech at 9.10 o’clock on Friday evening on his American visit, and the World Economic Conference, regarding the success of which he expresses strong hopes. A discussion on the Washington conversations will take place in the House of Commons next week.
