POSITION CLARIFIED.

Minister’s Reply to Dr J. J. North. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, May 4. A statement made by Dr J. J. North, president of the Auckland Council of Christian Congregations, to the effect that the Minister of Health (the Hon J. A. Young) had said that tottery applications have been received from churches represented in a recent deputation which waited upon him to protest against art unions was commented upon by Mr Young to-day. Mr Young said that he had nothing to detract from his statement that among the requests received for assistance from one of the £4OOO alluvial gold art unions were some from Christchurch organisations. He pointed out that he did not say that the applications had come from any of the churches represented by the deputation, but the requests included applications from several organisations covered by deputation.
