Labour Recruit from United Ranks. (Special to the “Star.”) TIMARU, May 3. The Labour Party gained a recruit from the ranks of the United Party last night, when after an address by Mr H. E. Holland, M.P., Leader of the Opposition, in the Theatre Royal, Mr T. H. Langford, of Winchester, in proposing a vote of thanks, announced his alignment with Labour. The announcement created a surprise among the large audience. Mr Langford, who contested the Temuka seat in the United Party’s interests against Mr T. D. Burnett at the last eiection, asserted that Mr Holland w 7 as now the only one who enunciated Liberal principles in his interpretation. Mr Holland’s address was devoted to Labour proposals for the economic rehabilitation of the Dominion. Mr Langford’s motion was carried amidst cheers. At the 1931 election, Mr T. D. Burnett polled 4737 votes and Mr T. H. Langford 3500.
