MINISTER’S DECISION.

The Ashley River Trust Relief Scheme. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, May 2. The complaint that Ashley River Trust work is being reserved for Christchurch unemployed to the exclusion of men in the district has been investigated by the Hon A. Hamilton, Minister of Employment. He states that there is no objection to a proportion of unemployed from a country district being engaged on these works, but in writing to the Ashley River Trust to this effect he has pointed out the difficulties of having town and country workers on different scales of relief working alongside each other. The Unemployment Board will raise no objection to this system so long as the country and city allocations are maintained and the system does not create friction.
