To Affiliate With U.S. Organisation. The monthly meeting of the management. committee of the Canterbury Horticultural Society was held in the society’s rooms, Manchester Street, last evening. In the absence of the chairman, Mr O. W. B. Anderson, Mr W. Balch occupied the chair. A letter was received from Mr W. H. Cropp offering a silver cup for encouraging novice classes in chrysanthemums. The conditions were: The cup to be called the Novice Challenge Cup, to be held for one year by the exhibitor gaining most points in classes 52 and 53. Any exhibitor who has previously won three first prizes for big bloom chrysanthemums to be ineligible. The offer was accepted. Mr E. E. Wiltshire said that he had been in communication with the American Gladiolus Society regarding the prospects of affiliation with that body and had been advised that affiliation would be possible if fifty members affiliated to some such recognised body as the Canterbury Horticultural Society , could be obtained. The required number had been obtained and Mr Wiltshire added that affiliation entitled members to the literature of the society, and also that a number of medals would be sent to the local society for competition among affiliated members.
