COLLEGE JUBILEE.
Procession Arranged for Sunday.
Complete arrangements have been made to mark the diamond jubilee of Canterbury University College. The first function will take place on Saturday night and the celebrations will be continued on Sunday and Monday, being followed by the students’ capping carnival, the main events of which are to take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The principal public event will be a procession on Sunday morning, when all associated with the jubilee will march from the college to the Cathedral, where a special service will be conducted by the Bishop of Christchurch, Dr Campbell West-Watson. Full academic dress, including trenchers, will be w r orn. The procession will be led by undergraduates, who will be followed in order by graduates, lecturers, members of the Professorial Board, members of the Board of Governors, and the Registrar of the College, guests of the college, the Rector (Dr J. Hight) and the chairman of the board (Mr C. T. Aschman). The procession will be formed at the college at 10.15 a.m., the service commencing at 11 a.m. On Saturday night, there will be a conversazione at the college. On Monday evening, the Commemoration Day celebrations will be held, thq address for the occasion being delivered by Professor J. Shelley, who will speak on “ Culture in a Mechanised World.” The students’ capping procession will take place on Tuesday, with the revue in the evening. On Thursday afternoon the degrees will be conferred by Colonel the Hon G. J. Smith, M.L.C., and the diploma bali will take place in the evening.
