SMOKE CONCERT.
Lyttelton Returned Soldiers.
The Lyttelton branch of the R.S.A. held its third annual smoke concert on Saturday evening. Mr J. Coxon was in the chair, and there was a large attendance. Among the visitors were the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton), Mr W. T. Lester (chairman of the Harbour Board), representatives of the Christchurch R.S.A., including Messrs W. E. J.eadley, G. Dabourn and C. Chisholm, and the following representatives of the New Brighton branch: Messrs H. Steventon (secretary), C. J. Picket, J. Boyd, H. Brooke and J. Clark. The following toasts were honoured: “ The King,” proposed by the president, Mr A. Nelson, who also proposed the toast of “ Absent Comrades ”; “ The Mayor, Councillors and Local Bodies,” proposed by Mr H. Mead and responded to by the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) and Mr W. T. Lester; “Lyttelton R.S. A.,” proposed by Mr W. E. Leadley and responded to by Mr A. Nelson; “ SubBraaches.” proposed by Mr J. Coxon; “ Christchurch R.5.A.,” proposed by the president, Mr A. Nelson “ The Visitors and Entertainers,” proposed by Mr N. Scott.
During the evening Mr W. E. Leadley gave a short address on the work undertaken by the Christchurch Association, and said he trusted that the local branch would continue to prosper. Musical and elocutionary items were contributed by the following:—Messrs J. Laurenson, J. Patterson, C. Curtis, W. Couch and R. Kiddy. Mr J. Wyatt was accompanist.
