Hurdle Race and Steeplechase * at Marton. WEDNESDAY’S PROSPECTS. ° WELLINGTON, April 24. A glimpse of winter possibilities will be. given hy the Marton Jockey Club’s autumn meeting on Wednesday, when both hurdle-razors and steeplechasers i will be catered for. with an open j hurdles and an open steeples. The | attractive stakes offered by the club : have drawn really excellent fields, and j the racing is likely to be keenly conj tested. The track should be easier ; than that on which most of the horses engaged have recently been racing, i The programme and prospects are: 1 There is interesting fresh blood in ; the Club Hurdles, especially in High ! Falutin and Ruanui, and either of j these class horses would go near suej cess with any sort of jumping display, j Consent, who showed a dislike for the | game in a few starts last winter, has j also only to jump to take all kinds :of beating. Among the tried section f are Adventus, Easterly, Jayson, High j Commissioner and Invictus, in good i form, and, without knowledge of how | the others will shape, they may be the | safest media of investment. Callamart’s Ellerslie form is likely to send him out a strong favourite for the Marton Steeplechase, and he should do better than his tWo stablemates, Omeo and Pangolin, though this pair, .with some recent racing, are both place prospects. Pangolin won the race last year. Okopua’s condition is unknown, but if near ready he would be dangerous. Day Lass should be the most solid of the others, unless Jayson be reserved. There will be good followings for Callamart and Omeo. The following horses are likely to meet with good support: Novice Handicap—Mercian Prince, Valdarado. Arctic Region. Club Hurdles—High Commissioner, Adventus, Jayson. . Crofton Handicap—Spearful, Chopin, La Poupee. Marton Steeplechase Callamart, Omeo. Autumn Hack Plate—Fairway, Chock Say, Attentive.
