Fishing at Shelly Beach, Miss Joan and Miss Patricia Hastings, aged eight and thirteen years respectively, daughters of Dr J. P. Hastings, of 249. Poisson by Road, hooked a 401 b kingfish on a schnapper line. The children tried to land their catch without assistance, but it proved too strong for them, and they had to call for help. Mr A. Farquhar. custodian of the Shelly Beach Baths, went to their assistance, and the big fish was hauled ashore after a struggle lasting twenty minutes. The “ kingi ” was cut up, and many picnickers helped themselves to it« juicy steaks.
