“A NEW BLUNDER.”

M. Herriot’s View of the German Protest. * ECHO OF COMMONS DEBATE. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received April 20, 11.45 am.) PARIS. April 19. In an article in the newspaper ‘ La Depeche de Toulouse ”, M. Ilerriot, who is voyaging to Washington, describes the German protest against the House of Commons debate as a new blunder added to so many others. Besides, he states, one cannot defy Israel with impunity. In praising the House of Commons condemnation of the revision of treaties in view of the present state of Germany, M. Herriot declares that Britain has awakened. The Four Power Pact has bsen thrown overboard. “We can breathe again,” he adds. “ Vigorous British democracy now understands what is hidden under the sophism of treaty revision. It ; c a remarkable volte face, facilitating our work at Washington.” The German Government instructed the German Ambassador to lodge an energetic protest with the British Government in view of the anti-German statements in the House of Commons. Amid cheers in the House of Commons Sir Austen Chamberlain asked: “ What is this new spirit of German nationalism? It is the worst of the old Prussian Imperialism, with the added savagery of the pride of exclusiveness. No subject not of pure Nordic birth can have equality of rights of citizenship in the nation to which he belongs.”
