MAY TOUR NORTH.
Canterbury Ranfurly Shield Team. rugby Affairs discussed. At a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening, the question of tours was discussed. Mr E. V. Phillips moved that a subcommittee be set up to go into the matter of a northern tour for the Canterbury Ranfurly Shield team. He suggested that the committee could make plans for the tour, ascertain —osts and find out the probable numoer of matches. The motion was carried, and the Competitions Committee, with Mr Phillips, was appointed to act as a sub-committee. Challenges for the Southbridge Shield, at present held by the Ellesmere Sub-union, were received from the Banks Peninsula, Hurunui and North Canterbury Sub-unions. The secretary was instructed to send the challenges to the Ellesmere Sub-union. Mr A. Thompson, reporting for the Competitions Committee, said that there were 127 entries for all grades, an increase of two on last year. The Boys’ High School and St Bede’s College teams had been promoted from fourth grade B to third grade, so as to enable the various school matches to be more easily arranged. The report was received. , It was decided to water the ground at Rugby Park, owing to the hard, dry nature of the soil there. The Draw.
