ADDINGTON YARDS.

Entries of store sheep, including the store lambs, were very much smaller than last week. The Easter holidays ’ probably had something to do with it, as trucking facilities would be interrupted. The sale for lambs was a patchy one, and values were back by Is to 2s a head, the average and inferior sorts showing the bigger depreciation. Lambs with a little condition about them were worth from 5s 9d to 7s, and there were some promising lines that made in the vicinity of 6s. One line of three-quarter-breds in low condition brought Is 6d. Just as in the lamb pens, the continued dry weather is severely depressing the adult sheep market, and over the early stages of the sale bids were very slow in coming. Some good sheep changed hands at low figures at the start, good two-tooth cross-bred fewes making only 12s, and four and six-tooth cross-breds from lls to 12s. A few weeks ago this class of sheep would have been worth 15s or 16 s. Representative sales were:—

Fat Sheep. The entry of fat sheep was heavier than lost week. Over the early stages the market aws slights firm, with no quotable change in last week’s values. The entry of fat cattle was of 300 head, compared with 342 head at last week’s sale. The quality was vtery , mixed, and included were a number of cattle which could have qualified for store classification. There was a good demand for all the best quality sorts, and values advanced about £1 a head on an average, but inferior types did not show any alteration on late rates. The top price for steters was £9 17s 6d, secured for one sold on account of J. C. Lochhead (Rakaia). The top price for heifers was £7 12s 6d, secured for one sold on account of J. Kennedy (Rangiora), while the best price for cows was £6 7s 6d, that figure being paid for one sold on account of E. Hay (Pigeon Bay). Vealers. There was a fair entry of vealers, and. with the exception of a line from North Canterbury, the quality generally was poor. Small calves, which were in short supply, sold well. Top price was £3 ISs 6d.
