Rifle Shooting Team Championship. MEMBERS SELECTED. (Special to the ‘’Star.",' ASHBURTON, April 11The following will represent the Ashburton Defence Rifle Club at the Otago Rifle Association’s annual championships, which will be held at Dunedin during Easter: — President D. F. Keir, Deputy-president F. Porter, Riflemen N. [ Bauerle, 11. Cromie and F. Clark. Ihe team will defend the Kiwi Cup, which it won last year for the aggregate teams’ match. Druids’ Lodge. The fortnightly meeting of the Star of Ashburton Lodge, Xo. 14, U.A.0.D., was held last evening, Brother R. M. Chambers, A.D., presiding over a good attendance. An invitation to attend a games evening on May 1 was received from the Success of Ashburton Lodge and accepted. A cheese for rebate on contributions and interest was received from the secretary of the United Friendly Societies Dispensary Board. The secretary reported that the appeal to members who wgre falling behind with their contributions had brought good results; also that through the kindness of the Success of Ashburton Lodge a ritual competition embracing the Y.A. charge would be conducted by the R.A. Chapter on May 15. A candidate was initiated.and at the close of the lodge a social hour was held, a large number of members of both lodges attending. The music was supplied by Brothers W. Healey and Longley. Women’s Institute. There was an attendance of thirtyfive at a meeting of the handicraft circle of the Women’s Institute in the Tanered Street Hall this afternoon, Mrs E. Loftus being convener. It was decided to hold future meetings at St Stephen’s kindergarten on the first Tuesday in each month. Personal. Mr H. D. Gunn I P D.G.M.. has left for New Plymouth where he will attend the biennial conference of the New Zealand branch of the Manchester Unity, Independent Order of Oddfellows, which will be opened on Monday. Mr J. S. Donaldson, P.D.G.M., will also attend the conference. Mr T B. Strong (Director ot Education) will pay a visit to Ashburton on Friday, April 28, to address those interested in the intermediate school system. Captain I Hillier. of the Ashburton Girl Guides, has been notified that she. has been appointed district captain. The Rev G D Verco has left for Auckland, where he will attend the Dominion conference of the New Zealand Churches of Christ.
