EVEREST MISHAP.
Indian Meteorologist Badly Burned. OBSERVATION BALLOON AFIRE. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received April 8, noon.) CALCUTTA, April 7. Gupta, an Indian meteorological officer accompanying the Everest Expedition, and two assistants; were severely burned by a hydrogen observation balloon which burst into flames as it was about to be released to take a reading of the wind strength at high altitudes. The flyers meanwhile are sweltering in a temperature of 103 degrees in the shade. High winds are still preventing further flights.
