TOOK MONEY AND RAN.
Youthful Canvasser’s Temptation.
Two youthful offenders for theft were charged in the Children’s Court this morning. One, for the theft of a ten shilling note, was convicted and discharged, and the other, for the theft of a bicycle, was placed in the care of the Child Welfare Department. The money was stolen, the Court was told, when the boy was canvassing with a fruit salesman. He went to the back door and found there a note asking the butcher to put the meat inside, and to take the money that had been left. As the boy knocked, the door opened and he saw the 10s note on a bench inside. He took it and ran, but was accosted shortly afterwards by the Linwood constable. When he was taken to the police station the money Avas found pushed inside a sock. The other boy, it was stated, stole a bicycle from Bedford Row and took it to his home. He hid it in a paddock at the back and took it out for rides when he wanted it. He was caught with the bicycle by his elder brother, who brought it to the police station. On the Bench were Messrs H. A. Young, S.M., T. W. West, J.P., and Mrs T Green, J.P.
