How to Fight Moths.

TT HAS BEEN ESTIMATED by a reliable authority that, in favourable conditions, the progeny of one female clothesmoth can consume 921 b of wool fibre in the course of a year. The total quantity of wool rendered useless by moth grub activity is, of course, much in excess of the actual quantity eaten. An average loss per annum of £1,000,000 in England is not an unreasonable estimate. No protection whatever is obtained by merely dusting with pepper, eucalyptus leaves, quassia chips, and other substances. Naphthalene is recommended. The strength for use is lib of good naphthalene flakes for six to ten cubic feet of space. A small cupboard will therefore require over 51b. A much more potent substance is paradichlorbsnzene, a crystalline substance which gives off a relatively heavy vapour, innocuous to man. Dichlorethane, camphor, and fresh pyrethrum powder are also efficacious for use in confined spaces.
