TWO GOOD TALKIES.
“Face in the Sky” and “The Utah Kid.” Two good talkies—“ Face in the Sky”, a delightful dramatic romance featuring Alarian Nixon, Spencer Tracy and Stuart Erwin, and a Western, “ The Utah Kid”, in which Rex Lease and Dorothy Sebastian have the leading roles—are offered at the Liberty Theatre. “Face in the Sky” is one of the most interesting screen offerings since the coming of talking pictures. A notable trio of film favourites, Spencer Tracy, Alarian Nixon and Stuart Erwin, have the leading roles. The plot concerns a travelling sign-painter, always dreaming of his glorious future. He meets a little country girl who is likewise a dreamer. With the aid of his clumsy helper, the painter assists her in escaping from her drab existence on I
a Vermont farm, only to fall In love with her. They are separated when the farmer overtakes them, but meet again under unique circumstances in. New York. In the handling of the story, Harry Lachman is said to demonstrate the ability that has made him a sensation in European directorial circles. Tracy, hitherto famous for his
“ hard-boiled ” portrayals in pictures, is cast in an entirely different type of role. Marian appears as the New England girl whose dreams lead her far beyond the confines of the farm, and whose dainty features become the “face in the sky.” Erwin here returns to the “dumb” roles that originally made him famous. Action is the keynote of “ The Utah Kid,” a thrilling Western starring Rex Lease. Dorothv Sebastian, Boris Karloff, Tom Santschi and Alary Carr appear in supP Box plans at The Bristol.
