SOUND THRASHING.

ATTENTIONS RESENTED. A husband who thrashed a man he accused of paying attentions to his wife was fined £5 and costs at the Northwick (Cheshire) Police Court. He was Arthur Platt, a farmer and cattle dealer, of Pickmere, and he was summoned for assaulting Frank Roughsedge, a motor driver, of Wincliam. James Wright, a dairy farmer, of Mobberley, was also fined £5 and costs, and William Southern, jun., a farm labourer, of Pickmere, 10/ for assaulting Roughs edge.

It was stated that when Roughsedge drove his transport wagon into Platt’s farmyard Platt seized him. A noose at the end of a rope was put round Roughsedge’s neck and he was pulled to the

ground, where his hands and ankles were tied. He was dragged 25 yards to the stable, where the rope was placed through a ring and held by Southern and Wright. Clothing Removed. Part of hie clothing was removed, and Roughsedge was then thrashed by Platt. Roughsedge, in evidence, said he was released after fifteen minutes, and when he tried to drive the motor van away he collapsed. Cross-examined, Roughsedge denied saying while in the stable, “I deserve it.” He also denied electing to 'be thrashed rather than go to court. Platt, in evidence, said he gave Roughsedge the choice of publicity in the Divorce Court or a good beating, and he alleged that Roughsedge consented to the thrashing. It was accidental that the rope got round Roughsedge’s nock as it was intended only to secure his body to prevent him from bolting. Roughsedge assisted ro remove his own clothing, and after the beating he said, “I deserved it.”
