Judge Makes Gallant
Confession
LONDON, April J. Mr Justice M 'Cardie, the bachelor judge, has just paid the greatest compliment of his career to the fair sex. He said he wondered how he had managed to remain a bachelor! Mr Justice M'Cardie was moved to make this gallant confession at the dinner of the Tail Waggers’ Club, held at the Dorchester Hotel. Park Lane. \Y.. to celebrate the enlistment of the first 500.000 members of the club. lie did not omit to refer to the subject of the evening—dogs but he achieved his triumph as an after-dinner speaker, at least in the opinion of the 200 women present, when, in reply to the toast of “The Guests,” he said: “ I am replying not only for the men, the great school of English manhood, but also the lady guests. And if you could look into my heart- -if you could —you would see that it is thrilling, absolutely quivering, because mention has been made of the fact that I am a bachelor. “As I look at all the charming women here. I can only repeat that I love women and wonder how it is that I have remained a bachelor for so long."
